About Drummond Library
Drummond Library Mission Statement
The Drummond Montessori Library is central to the fulfillment of the instructional goals and objectives of the school, providing an environment that encourages intellectual curiosity and personal enjoyment reading. The library offers a rich variety of print and electronic resources necessary to enrich and support educational programs and the certified library media specialist works collaboratively to provide the services necessary to satisfy the evolving informational and recreational needs of the students, faculty, and staff.
A planned program of teaching information skills in collaboration with classroom teachers and other educators is an essential part of the Drummond Library Program.
The mission of Drummond Library is to provide lessons and resources that will assist students, families, and staff in becoming effective and discriminating users of information, develop a pattern of lifelong learning, and fostering a love of literature.

Library Standards
Drummond's Library uses the Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries (I-SAIL) to facilitate instructional planning. The three separate standards include:
-Common Core State Standards
- National Education Technology Standards
- American Association of School Librarians Standards for the 21st Century Learner
These standards incorporate information literacy skills, technological skills, instilling a love of literature and creating life-long learners of our students!

Access to information-Drummond's Policy
Drummond Library adheres to the American Association of School Libraries and American Library Association Library Bill of Rights.
Per Access to Resources and Services in the School Library Media Program:
"School library media specialists resist efforts by individuals or groups to define what is appropriate for all students or teachers to read, view, hear, or access via electronic means."

My goals as the media specialist are:

About Ms. Steiger
Ms. Steiger has been the library information specialist at Drummond since 2010. She has a Masters of Education from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas and attended UIUC's Graduate of Library Information Science program.
When she isn't in the library, you can find her hanging out with her family in Logan Square, dancing to music, or knitting!
